Apprentice Teacher: Most fire units do have some community outreach program to help them teach and train those in their community. My fondest recollections of my Boy Scout years are of the visits to fire, police, medical, and other government offices, not to mention the Red Cross, and similar service organizations.
Mike: Thank you for your comment! That's a good question. 1st Choice: the place that's easy to navigate is my blogsite: www.FamilyPreparednessGuide.com. On the Right Hand side of the page, there is a rectangular widget for my Blog Talk Radio broadcasts. In the upper Right Hand corner of the bluish box is a little white indicator which when grabbed by your mouse pointer and moved up or down, will allow you to see the broadcasts for many weeks, listed chronologically and with a brief description of the show. 2nd choice: you could go to www.blogtalkradio.com/James-Talmage-Steven and go through all kinds of clicks to find what you want. Take the first and keep it super simple! James Talmage Stevens

Bill: Thank you for your comment! You said it better than I did! Frozen pizza that doesn't remain frozen is not a meal I would relish! But it does meet the basic requirement of storing what you eat and eating what you store--people often miss the 3rd leg of the mantra: use it or lose it! When once asked how many MRE's would I store for a year's supply, I responded that 6 would be enough! After that, my appetite would be fatigued! The key is to be properly prepared. To paraphrase a Biblical injunction: if you live by the sword, you'll die by the sword. One bright young and apparently inexperienced person said he'd just go to the store and get some dry ice. Uh-huh, why didn't Ragnar Benson think of that?! If I wrote a book about the mistakes I've made with that kind of thinking, it would be 10 times bigger than the one I published! James Talmage Stevens

Cheryl: thank you for your comment. It's great that we have this information super highway to help us gain knowledge. I really enjoy news that exemplifies the human spirit being truly dominant over the elements. James Talmage Stevens

These are the kind of stories I like to hear, people who are in disasters and can tell us what they know so we learn from them. You do not hear this on the news. Thank you, Cheryl
