Another resource to help you Keep It Super Simple!
If you’re overwhelmed by preparedness detail, here’s a super simple solution for relief:
I recently interviewed Tal Ehlers, owner of Ready2Prepare. His company, Ready2prepare, was created as a direct result of a conversation he had with a business acquaintance in the summer of 2006.
Actually, his business, emergency preparedness, became personally important in 1998. As a young husband and father, he wanted his family to be more secure from the unexpected events such as happened over the next ten years––Y2K, 9/11, the Iraq War, Katrina, and countless other natural and people-caused disasters
Through all those uncertain events, being personally prepared has given Tal and his family feeling a remarkable sense of peace and security. Whether it was a temporary power outage or a flash flood, his family was always confident, knowing when the roads were closed of grocery stores emptied of food, his family would be safe and sound.
He told me his desire to develop this service came in the summer of 2006, when war exploded between Israel and the Islamic Hezbollah military force operating in Lebanon. He was on the phone with one of his clients in Albuquerque––a lady in her 60’s––who lived with her son. The fighting had broken out earlier in the day, and she was distracted by the news, especially when a commentator had stated that the battle, with the U.S. support of Israel, could cause terrorist cells in the U.S. to become active. Accurate prediction or not, what mattered was that she was scared and clueless as to how to prepare if something truly catastrophic did happen.
Tal said he discussed with her about having a 2-week supply of food and water––provisions beyond a 72-hour kit; 2 gallons of water per person per day; how to store water in 2-liter bottles (not plastic jugs); food that would require no cooking; filling the car’s gas tank when it became half empty; having some hard currency (cash!) on hand; having a small propane heater for a well-ventilated room; and some of the other necessities of prudent planning everyone should understand and do.
These were simple things that fit within her budget and gave her some peace of mind now to reduce her concerns and worry in the event of a disaster or emergency. Tal said if she were indicative of the many people across the country that would need advice like that, and knowing that everyone should become personally prepared for the many types of potential disasters and emergencies that occur, there must be a business opportunity in helping people become prepared!
As a result of that and subsequent conversations with clients, Tal created www.Ready2Prepare.com, a coaching/mentoring service for those who are overwhelmed by the preparedness process, and provides one-on-one emergency preparedness consulting. He recognized there are many individuals and families that have heard of emergency preparedness and believe that this may be a good idea but they don’t know where to start.
Ready2prepare provides personalized emergency information and training so you can recognize potential hazards in your local area and help you plan for many different types of emergencies, especially those incidental to your area.
Tal is a road warrior, traveling the country as a speaker and trainer for Fire, EMS and Law Enforcement agencies regarding First Responder Emergency Planning (FREP) training. He is a certified trainer who trains First Responders in key emergency preparedness principles, strategies, and techniques to enable them to take care of their homes and families now, so they can take care of business when emergency duty calls. He is an EMT-I and is Hazmat Operations certified. He is a certified FireFighter, with Wildland Fire certification. He is a Tactical EMT for the County Sheriff’s office and an officer with the county Search and Rescue (SAR) organization.
Tal speaks regularly to civic and church groups regarding emergency and personal preparedness. His message is that being prepared means that when an emergency occurs, you can get through it with a greater degree of comfort until a sense of normalcy returns.
It’s as simple as that!
Till next time…
